Representation

 Representation

The Flash directed by Andy Muschietti, aired on CW. This tv show has construction, stereotypes, and othering. The director created specific stories for each episode showing The Flash getting stronger, showing more visual effects as he got stronger. Muschietti had to make the story line about a heroes' journey, and how The Flash would react after a win, loss, or tragedy. Muschietti used CGI to create the Speed Force and many of The Flashes' powers like phasing, depended on shots, angles, and editing. The use of CGI and The Flash's character development are well executed in terms of construction.

Muschietti used the stereotypical team, like the smart person, the mentor, and the brave person. He also used the damsel in distress. The Flash was the brave person, the smart person was Cisco Ramon, the Mentor was Harrisson Wells. Iris West was stereotyped as the damsel in distress multiple times which could have limited the depth in her character. This could lead to people not liking the character as she always needs to be saved or helped.

The use of othering to represent metahumans as fundamentally different from the audience made the show quality higher. This could be because it might be interesting to get a glimpse of the life of somebody fundamentally different. Along with metahumans, the Earths in this universe were othered. The Earth's were different versions of the same people in the Flash's Earth. The people from other Earth's could the opposite of the people of The Flash's Earth to very different or be similar but not the same.
